The Ministry of Finance has decided to take advantage of the recent appreciation of the Colombian peso to acquire dollars and guarantee the payment of the external debt until April 2025, for an amount equivalent to COP$5.57 billion. This measure is supported by Decree 1523 of 2024, which allows the advance purchase of foreign currency necessary for the service of the external debt, recording the budgetary obligations at the exchange rate in effect at the time of the affectation.
